Best Tarantino movie I've seen in awhile. Wardrobe was exceptional.

Features

Last week, we leaked a sample pic of an upcoming piece to our Fall collection... a nice wool snapback. I failed to leak this pic the blog (booo), but our leak managed to make many sites around the blog-o-sphere. Among those were CtotheJL, C'est Lavie, Fresh Fiends, and surprisingly enough, The Hundreds. Big thanks to all that support our vision! Much more to come soon, promise.

FDL welcomes the Desert Storm

A lil while back, I touched on my new affiliation with Frank151. Part of this was a precursor to Arizona being welcomed into the Frank family, by receiving its own Frank Distro League (FDL) team! If you haven't heard of this before, its simple. The FDL is a group of teams located in various cities around the country. Within these teams are a select group of the cities "tastemakers"... people that are involved in the overall urban movements of the city. These teams then help sponsor events, throw their own events, market, distribute, and network around the city and with other teams... in efforts to really make the FDL become more of a mega-marketing force. There is definitely more to it, and as things develop, I will be more than happy to share. Until then, peep the new logo, and check out the Frank Site(s) on the regular.

Sneaky

Here's a sneak peak of an upcoming collaborative effort between SF "Giants", Rebel 8 & Benny Gold. These two creative forces are known for their extensive font work, and as the pic shows, they do not disappoint. Scheduled to release are a couple of tees and a New Era cap. Fall/Winter is shaping up to be grand this year!

RIP Baatin

With the recent passing of Slum Village member, Baatin, and the "just like yesterday" loss of J.Dilla, Motivation Boutique is releasing this tribute tee. Pretty basic, but dope at the same time. Proceeds of this shirt will go to the families of Baatin and J.Dilla, respectfully.

If you go to England and say that you want your new Whip to be chromed out, they take it straight to heart apparently. Stateside that would get you an obnoxious set of fat-lipped 22's, but in England, they do the whole fucking car. Nice.

Edie Sedgwick

R.I.P. John Hughes

Famed 80's movie writer/director, John Hughes passed away today while walking the streets of New York. Hughes was responsible for great works such as Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Home Alone, & Weird Science... just to name a few. Everyone in my generation has seen these again and again and can relate to his characters in some way or another. His work to all of us "80's babies" (I hate that saying) will leave a lasting impression - a testament to his legacy.

The Brown & Green Box: lost in obscurity

There was once a time where I and everyone I knew either had a pair or desperately wanted a pair. As we grew older, the 6" Timberland boot became lost in the shuffle, in exchange for rare sneakers, only making an appearance when it was time to go to a club that did not permit athletic footwear. Then, suddenly, POOF! Timberland basically disappeared, both in creative direction and from many store accounts. What happened?

Timberland was facing a time where the public really... I mean REALLY latched on to their products, most notably the 6" premium workboot. Not knowing how to keep up with the demand for their $150 products, they did what many other footwear companies have done before and are especially doing now. Outfitting a classic like this with grotesque patchwork, shoddy materials, sheep wool liners, roll down tops, and the big killer, COLORS - lots and lots of colors. Colors that didn't make any fucking sense. Who the fuck buys an all-white suede boot with a baby blue sole and ankle padding? PINK Timbs???!!! And the crowd pleasing grey, navy & baby blue square patch joints that looked like a cheap pair of Burlington Coat Factory jeans. Sigh. With the recent resurgence of mens workwear invading the streetwear market, companies have been revisiting the classic work boot. Sophnet offers a pair that is only sold in Japan for $500. Visvim has a couple of offerings that retail around the same or more. Most of these boots are made in Canada or Japan and have nice materials - materials that have remained unchanged since the day they were made available to hikers, construction workers, and landscapers. But why has the industry turned its back on the Golden Years of Timberland? How can you reject the classic Wheat nubuck, Chili smooth leather, or Black nubuck?

The other day on Hypebeast they broke a story about Timberland collaborating with the French boutique, Colette. As expected there were a couple of haters, but all in all it seemed like the "kids" were really starting to take another, much needed look at the boot that really sets the bar. Premium construction & materials, and at $150 it beats the fuck out of a Japanese "exclusive" that comes in navy blue with pink laces (no diss to pink, just not on boots, please). That leads me to last night, when I unearthed the few remaining pairs I saved from years past. Hopefully I can find it in my heart to add these to the fall rotation... maybe you should do the same. Just remember to take the hang tag off and tie them up for God's sake! This isn't a Cam'ron video.

words of wisdom

"We are all guests at the wake for what once was a living breathing business. Every store in this town is a converted chapel where the grieving friends and families come to view the dearly departed."

-Interesting words of wisdom by Eric Gaskins, a former designer whose clothing line recently went out of business. Gaskins also had a blogger alter ego, where he routinely bashed and criticized his industry, peers, and media outlets.

DD feature: C'est La Vie issue #006

C'est La Vie recently got with us about featuring our ideals and our small logo lookbook in their Quick Fix #006 magazine. A big thanks goes out to all of C'est La Vie. We look forward to many more hookups in the future. Here's a couple of pics from the mag, make sure to check out the whole thing though!
